So we're back from our
short but great trip to London. It's been my 5th time in the city so I only focused on my favourite places and also had the chance to explore some new hotspots. One of them surely was Eneko which is located at the One Adwych hotel in Covent Garden. The restaurant is the latest opening chef Eneko Atxa, whose three-Michelin Azurmendi restaurant is one of the World’s Top 50 Restaurants. The menu consists of dishes with a modern take on traditional Basque cuisine.
When I hear Michelin star there are some things that immediately pop to my mind: 1. It must cost a fortune 2. I'll probably need to grab a burger afterwards :)
Eneko surprised me in many ways.
First of all the atmosphere was great. I was afraid it was going to be stiff and from the outside it seemed a little dark being located on the ground floor but when you're actually in it was chic and cozy. The noise level was just right with great lounge music playing but you could still hear each other which most of the time is not the case in London restaurants.
Our waiter Sebastian carefully explained the menu to us and made some great recommendations. We opted for the 'Cauliflower in Textures' and the 'Cerdito Caliente' . The califlower dish was just too pretty to eat and great Insta material :) The Cerdito Caliente was just our taste, which was basically a small burger filled with Iberico ham in a traditional Basque muffin.
As a main course Sebastian recommended the 'Slow-cooked Oxtail' and the 'Hake Tempura' which where both great but if you are a meat lover like me you should definitely try the Oxtail.
Although we were quite full after the main course (who would have thought) we couldn't resist ordering some dessert. I had the 'Torrija' which is a traditional Basque vanilla sponge and my husband had the 'Light Peanut Sponge Cake' which was really yummy!
So here is the most surprising part. The prices. Starters range from 9-13 pounds and main dishes 13-19 pound which is really not much compared to other London restaurants and the great food and atmosphere you get for it.
So all in all I would say Eneko is perfect for a romantic dinner or a first date. The atmosphere is relaxed, hip and great to have a lovely dinner. It's also a good choice if you want to impress your girlfriend without spending that months salary :) You should also check out their pre and post theatre offers and the brunch menu here.
