A layover in Kuala Lumpur - 24 hours in Kuala Lumpur

Updated: Mar 25, 2020

We had a 1 day layover in Kuala Lumpur from our way from Bali to Hong Kong. This is very common when traveling through Asia since Kuala Lumpur Airport is a major hub. In case you have time I definitely recommend too include Kuala Lumpur to your itinerary. We had a wonderful time and got to see the major attractions. You have a choice of excellent places to eat and seeing the shiny Petronas towers was always on my bucket list. To check out my Kuala Lumpur posts visit #oookualalumpur 🇲🇾

When to go to Kuala Lumpur 📅: Kuala Lumpur is hot all year around and there is always a chance for rain.

Where to stay in Kuala Lumpur 🏨: You can stay at amazing hotels for around 80-100 Euros per night. We chose Hotel Stripes and loved everything about it.

Transportation in Kuala Lumpur 🚋: The Airport is quite far from the city center (60km). We took an UBER and where at our hotel after 45 minutes and paid around 15 Euro. Also in the city center UBER is the cheapest solution. There is of course public transportation which is the wiser choice during rush hour.

We had exactly 24 hours in Kuala Lumpur which was plenty of time to get a good impression of the city. Here are some of my favorite spots.

Breakfast at VCR

Although location vise a bit weird I really loved the place and the food. Must try when in Kuala Lumpur.

Shopping coma - Bukit Bitang

This is the main shopping district of Kuala Lumpur where you can find one mall after the other. Perfect to do some shopping on humid and rainy days. My favorite was definitely Pavillon. Also make sure to visit Isetan department store.

Lunch and coffee break - The Row

This is a super cute area where you can find plenty of options for to eat. I especially liked League of Captains.

Kuala Lumpur at night

Of course we wanted to have drinks at one of Kuala Lumpur's famous rooftops where you gaze at Petronas Towers. We kicked of the evening at SkyBar. Although the view is quite impressive we found it a bit too touristy.

After drinks we headed to Troika Skydining for dinner. We had reservations at Fuego , which serves South American cuisine. Make sure to make reservations on the terrace facing the view. We had a wonderful evening with delicious food and stunning views.

Night market - Alor

We knew these night markets from Bangkok. Jalon Alor street is the right address if you're up for some local cuisine.

Accommodation - Hotel Stripes

We loved our room at Hotel Stripes. Click here for more info.
